Xin Museum is an imaginative institution for contemporary mainland Chinese artists to curate their work without any boundaries. Xin translates to “new”. The unlimited freedom that Xin Museum provides is opposite to the experience of curating work in mainland China, where censorship is dominant and freedom of speech is frowned upon. Xin Museum offers a “Xin” perspective of authentic work by Chinese artists. As the museum curates contemporary art, the sans-serif and quirky ink-trap typography choices evoke this idea of ever-changing contemporary contexts and opinions. The repetitive pattern created from the logotype further emphasizes Xin Museum’s “new” values, instead of the traditionally strict and censored values.
